The Marienwaerdt estate was founded as a monastery in 1129. It was acquired in 1734 by the Count von Bijlandt, whose descendants now run the estate. Organic farming is the focus of various activities that maintain the estate. In the cheese dairy, their own milk is made into Gouda cheese in its natural state. The higher fat content of the milk makes for a creamy, tasty cheese that has become the estate’s trademark.
